Dr. Robert Gehrig, DMD, FAGD
Dr. Gehrig has been in practice in Fort Pierce since 1981. He is a 1980 graduate of the University of Florida College of Dentistry. He completed a General Practice Residency at the University of Florida through Shands Teaching Hospital in 1981. He has studied at the Pankey Institute, the Dawson Academy and numerous other continuing education courses over the years.
Dr. Gehrig maintains membership in the American College of Dentists; American Dental Association; Florida Dental Association; Atlantic Coast District Dental Association; Treasure Coast Dental Society; Academy of General Dentistry ; Florida Academy of General Dentistry; Special Care Dentistry Association; and the Sailfish Study Club, a local club dedicated to the continuing education of area dentist.
The American College of Dentists granted Fellowship to Dr. Gehrig on October 23rd, 2003. “This testimonial is given ‘ by the regents of the American College of Dentists’ in recognition of services and devotion to the advancement of the science and art of dentistry.” Less than 3.5 present of the dentists in the USA are extended membership in this honorary, and by invitation only, organization. Dr. Gehrig currently serves as the South Florida Ethics Chairman. He is responsible for organizing and facilitating ethics programs and ethics education for dental students and dental residents in South Florida at Nova Southeastern College of Dental Medicine, The University of Florida Hialeah Residency Program and the Florida Institute for Advanced Dental Education.
The Academy of General Dentistry is an organization which represents general dentists and encourages continuing education. It recognizes fellowship and mastership positions and currently Dr. Gehrig holds a Fellowship in general dentistry and is working on his Mastership. Dr. Gehrig has held several leadership positions within the Academy, including President of the Florida Academy of General Dentistry, Membership Council Chair of the Academy of General Dentistry, and is currently Regional Director of Region 20 of the Academy of General Dentistry.
He has been active in leadership in many others of these organizations including Florida Dental Association Delegate and President of the Treasure Coast Dental Society.
Community service has been an important part of Dr. “Bob” Gehrig’s life. He was Co-chair for the Campaign for the Children’s Services Council of St. Lucie County and was appointed to the Children’s Services Council of St. Lucie County by Governor Martinez and Governor Childs. He has been associated with the CASTLE since his arrival in Fort Pierce in 1981. He has served as President of the Governing Board and sat on the Foundation Board.
Through his family and friends participation in the Exchange Club Chili Cook-Off, “Dr. Bob” has raised well over $100,000.00 for the CASTLE. He was a volunteer Little League Umpire for over 20 years. He is an active member and Past President of the Downtown Kiwanis Club, and was also a member and Past President of the Exchange Club of Fort Pierce. He was a Scoutmaster for Troop 471 where his son Tony received his Eagle Scout Designation, and was also Kiwanis Scout Coordinator. Dr. Gehrig is currently Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 405 where both his older grandchildren are involved.
Dr. Gehrig attends Saint Anastasia Catholic Church where he is a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Dr. Gehrig has been married to Grisel Perez-Gehrig for 38 years, and together they have two grown children, R. Anthony Gehrig and Audrey Franklin. Audrey and her husband Kevin , have five boys who are the greatest grandchildren ever!
